If Dimmu Borgir and Iron Maiden had a love child, it would be called Opera Diabolicus. The band was created from the metal minds of composer/musician David Grimoire and lyricist Adrian de Crow. The two metal heads met randomly at a stage play of Umberto Eco’s book The Name of the Rose at a theatre in Gothenburg in 2006. That setting fired up the idea of a dark theatrical story told through a doom metal medium.

The album + 1614 is a reference to Elizabeth Bathory the Blood Countess. The most notorious female serial killer; she is attributed with death and torture of hundreds of girls. Opera Diabolicus tells you her story with epic guitar rifts, and haunting piano. The vocals range from the calls of a sweet Valkyrie, to the ghoulish screams of a demon.

If you are down for a metal opera of the darkest proportions check out “+ 1614″ on February 28th via Metalville Records.
