Paulette was the vocalist for the San Diego hard-rock band, The Abuse. The band was enjoying some success on the scene and had opened a show for bands such as Korn.

Paulette was killed in her OB home on August 6, 2004 from a gunshot to her heart. She was only 34 years of age.

The shooter, it was later learned, fled to Rosarito, Mexico. He wasn’t hard to identify; witnesses reported the name ‘Snoopy’ tattooed on the left side of his neck. He was identified as Samuel Horn. In his trial, he was convicted of the shooting and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

No one really knows that “The Abuse” was the reason why I decided to start SDMETAL.COM after a show at Canes in Mission Beach on 2000.  I only knew Paulette for about 4 years in which we became good friends. She later introduced me to the San Diego Death Metal band band Warface. In term “The Abuse” but especially Paulette, laid the foundation to what it’s now known as SDMETAL.COM.  Her death was devastated to the San Diego Metal Scene at that time and it hasn’t been the same since.

To her friends and beloved ones, Paulette Valenzuela will always be known as “The Queen on the Scene“.

Here’s the song “Fallen” by the abuse which also features Sean Nelson of “Kill your Name
