Mastodon Del Mar 2026: Powerful Bill With Deafheaven, Alcest
The Mastodon Del Mar show is on for Sunday, October 11, 2026, when the Atlanta band brings The Poisonous Weapons Tour to The Sound at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with Deafheaven and Alcest in support. That’s three very different shades of heavy on one bill, the night after the San Diego Metal Swap Meet. One important note before you plug “Belly Up” into your GPS: Belly Up Presents is promoting the show, but it is not at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. It’s at The Sound.

The Poisonous Weapons Tour Comes to Del Mar

Mastodon announced The Poisonous Weapons Tour on June 2, 2026, according to Blabbermouth. The run followed a stretch of European festivals and headline dates with Loathe, kicked off September 16 in Orlando, and closes October 24 at Sick New World Dallas. The California leg hits Oakland’s Fox on October 9, the Hollywood Palladium on October 10, and then The Sound on October 11. That makes the Mastodon Del Mar date the last California stop on the tour before the bands head to Denver’s Fillmore on October 14.

Mastodon: New Single “Your Ghost Again”

The tour arrived alongside a new single, “Your Ghost Again,” out on Loma Vista Recordings. Per Blabbermouth, the song confronts the death of friend and former bandmate Brent Hinds and the passing of drummer Brann Dailor’s mother. On the track, bassist Troy Sanders and Dailor trade vocals over guitars from Bill Kelliher and new guitarist Nick Johnston, with keyboardist João Nogueira adding atmosphere. Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou produced it, and Andrew Scheps mixed it. Blabbermouth described the single as a preview of the band’s next chapter as they finished their next full-length album. Dailor explained the song’s core idea: “I was just singing about what I was seeing, and I was seeing ghosts.”

Mastodon’s Track Record

If you somehow need convincing, the band bio published by both Belly Up and Blabbermouth lays it out:
    • Formed in Atlanta in 2000.
    • Leviathan made Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.”
    • Three straight Top 10 Billboard 200 debuts: The Hunter (2011), Once More ‘Round the Sun (2014) and Emperor of Sand (2017).
    • A Grammy for Best Metal Performance for “Sultan’s Curse,” out of six career nominations.
    • Ninth album Hushed and Grim was their third straight No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart.
    • A 2024 arena tour with Lamb of God for the 20th anniversary of Leviathan, plus the joint single “Floods of Triton.”

Deafheaven: Blackgaze on the Bill

Deafheaven bring their blackgaze sound to the Mastodon Del Mar bill. Belly Up’s write-up frames the band around one idea: “The desire for escape is central to Deafheaven.” That’s about escaping cycles, whether that means everyday repetition, inherited baggage or “your very DNA.”

Alcest: Post-Black Metal Support

Rounding out the lineup is Alcest, the post-black metal band whose addition to the tour was announced by their label, Nuclear Blast. Belly Up’s bio says the band has been signed to Nuclear Blast since 2019, and that drummer Winterhalter joined in 2009. Belly Up’s bio highlights Écailles de lune (2010) and Kodama (2016) as landmark albums. It says Shelter (2014) moved into airy shoegaze, Spiritual Instinct (2019) went back to harsher sounds, and Les Chants de l’Aurore (2024) keeps exploring a dreamlike world inspired by Neige’s inner visions. Running order hasn’t been posted, so get there for doors if you don’t want to miss them.
