The GWAR Joe Bob Briggs team-up is real, and it’s on vinyl. GWAR and the Last Drive-In-Stein comes out Nov. 13 through GWAR’s own Pit Records, pairing the Scumdogs with the horror host and his The Last Drive-In house band, John Brennan and the Bigfeet. The first single, “Splatter-Fu,” and its official video are out now, per Theprp.
The press release pitches it as two shock institutions celebrating anniversaries at once: more than four decades of GWAR and 40 years of Joe Bob Briggs on television as a film critic, commentator and entertainer.
What’s on the GWAR Joe Bob Briggs record
The GWAR Joe Bob Briggs LP is a split in the plainest sense. Side A is GWAR’s live set from The Last Drive-In’s 2025 Halloween special. Per the release, that set mixes several GWAR originals with covers of songs associated with Joe Bob’s show.
Side B belongs to John Brennan and the Bigfeet, the show’s house band, playing songs written for the final two seasons of The Last Drive-In. The release calls it the third official soundtrack release from Brennan and the Bigfeet.
“Splatter-Fu” sits on both sides. It was written specifically for GWAR by John Brennan, so the band’s version is on Side A and a 2023 demo turns up on Side B.
The GWAR Joe Bob Briggs track list, as printed in the release:
- Side A, GWAR: “Joe Bob Is Back In Town,” “Fuck This Place,” “Splatter-Fu,” “Lot Lizard,” “Gor-Gor,” “Drive-In Oath”
- Side B, John Brennan and the Bigfeet: “Joe Bob Is Back in Lounge” (Live at Jamboree ’23), “Everyone Loves Halloween,” “Beauteous Gluteus Maximus,” “Gettin’ Ripped at the Drive-In,” “The Skybar Jingle,” “Splatter-Fu” (2023 Demo), “Up All Nightmareathon,” “We’re Getting the Fire Started,” “You’re the Glue,” “Thank You, Roger Corman / The Drive-In Oath” (Live at Jamboree ’23)
Pre-orders are open through gwar.net. The release only mentions vinyl. No price was printed in the coverage we read, so check the store.
In their own words
Both camps gave statements for the GWAR Joe Bob Briggs announcement. Blothar went first:
Lordy Lordy, look who’s 40! GWAR and Joe Bob Briggs. A match made in hell! I love horror movies, trash, and funny spooky stuff. GWAR wouldn’t exist without it. I was just a calf when creepy Joe Bob reached up my poodle skirt at the last Drive-in. He promised he’d make me a star… Now we’ve made a record together!

Joe Bob answered:
To create the real spirit of Halloween, I called up my buddies – the intergalactic warriors who live in Antarctica – and I asked them to bring some fear, some filth, and some fun. Of course you know whom I’m talkin’ about… the Scumdogs of the Universe… GWAR!

The release closes with its own pitch: “Two shock icons. More than 80 combined years of cultural carnage. One very strange record indeed!” That’s about as fair a summary of the GWAR Joe Bob Briggs project as you’ll get.
Nearest show: Anaheim, Nov. 18
The GWAR Joe Bob Briggs album lands in the middle of a GWAR fall tour. We checked the dates against the official tour page on gwar.net before printing them. The run starts Oct. 27 at The Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, Va., and ends Dec. 12 at The NorVa in Norfolk, Va.
There’s no San Diego date. The closest stops for us:
- Tue., Nov. 17: Tempe, Ariz., Marquee Theatre
- Wed., Nov. 18: Anaheim, House of Blues Anaheim
- Thu., Nov. 19: Berkeley, The UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall
- Fri., Nov. 20: Chico, Senator Theatre
Anaheim is the drive. On the openers, the sources don’t match. GWAR’s official page lists Midnight, Mac Sabbath and Nailed Shut as support for the Anaheim show and the rest of the western run. Metal Injection’s tour list marks the same western dates with Atomic Rule instead, and marks the eastern dates with X-Cops. The official page also mentions X-Cops on the eastern shows, alongside Midnight and Mac Sabbath. We’re going with the band’s own listing, but confirm with the venue before you go. There’s one more mismatch: Metal Injection lists the Nov. 13 Salt Lake City show at Rockwell at The Complex, while gwar.net says The Depot.
Ticket prices and set times weren’t published in the material we checked. For the GWAR Joe Bob Briggs vinyl itself, the band’s store is the place to look.
GWAR and San Diego
GWAR were last booked here in April, sharing House of Blues San Diego with Soulfly on the April 19 date we previewed in our Soulfly and GWAR House of Blues story. Soulfly were back in town this month, too; see our Soulfly Soda Bar preview.
Until GWAR come back south, the GWAR Joe Bob Briggs LP and the “Splatter-Fu” video will have to hold you over. The vinyl is due Nov. 13, five days before Anaheim.
