“Three persons. Three tormented souls. Three happy souls. Three desperate souls. Violence and combat, contemplation and sadness, junction between the ocean and the sky. Mox, Drums and electro, Jouch, Guitar, Voice and electro, and Rico, Bass, Voice. No limit. From Metal to Synthetic music, from violins to Trip-hop. Melody is a leitmotiv, Rhythm is fuel. Let’s be Naïve, once.”
Naive is a band out of Toulouse, France and the previous quote from their press pack describes this band really well. Naive is a three piece band on a mission to create something melodic and different with their music.
Their album, “Altra” falls somewhere between an EP and a full length album, due to it only being seven songs long, but fills the content of this album by having 7-8 minute songs. Their music provides a foundation in hard rock, but gives an atmospheric and full sound to their songs with the inclusion of electronic backing tracks and a sense of wonder. This album is one of those albums you can just put on in the background and just relax and unwind from a long day, but also enjoy for its many inter-workings and layers to their music. One of the main highlights from this album for me was the song, “Yshbel”. In this songs, there were many moments where I found myself lost in the music. It gives off this feeling of hovering above the clouds. The album allows for the imagination to run freely and while also showing the musicianship of the members in this band. While the album is calm at times, it also provides some heavy elements including sections of pounding double bass drums and heavy power chords. Musically, the album gives insight to the emotions of the band by giving that great blend of aggression and tranquility.
Naive provides something new and different for people to enjoy and gives insight to the capabilities of this band as a whole. “Altra” is a beautiful piece of art that provides a place of relaxation and serenity that can be enjoyed by many.
To get a taste of their work, the band has uploaded the whole album to their Youtube page and you can listen to it below.
