The new Snot album is “almost done,” according to guitarist Mikey Doling. Speaking on the We Were Loud Once podcast, as transcribed by Blabbermouth, Doling said the Santa Barbara band is “really close right now” to finishing its first studio album with singer Andy Knapp. In Blabbermouth’s words, it will be Snot’s first collection of new material in nearly three decades. There’s no title, release date or tracklist yet.
Where the New Snot Album Stands
Doling didn’t give a finish date, but he made it sound close. “We’re pretty much almost there,” he said. He also said Knapp is “now very confident and stoked because he killed it, man. I’m telling you, it’s amazing.”
Here’s what’s known so far about the new Snot album:
- Producer: Chris Collier is producing, engineering and mixing the record.
- Vocals: Recorded in Las Vegas with Collier. Doling and Knapp drove there together from Doling’s place in the Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario area.
- Singer: Andy Knapp, on his first studio album with the band.
- Release: Blabbermouth’s background paragraph says the LP is due in summer 2027 via BLKIIBLK, the heavy metal imprint of Frontiers Label Group. Doling didn’t give a date in the quotes Blabbermouth ran.
- Not announced: Title, release date, tracklist, first single and any tour.
The ‘Long Drive’
The new Snot album nearly had a title that came straight from those trips. Doling said the drive to Vegas was “about a three-and-a-half-hour drive,” and that the long hours in the car became part of the process. “We talked a lot about the music, the lyrics, how he felt about it, the undertaking he had, the challenges he had,” he said. “And we almost called the album ‘Long Drive’, ’cause it was a long drive to record vocals. But it’s not called ‘Long Drive’, but we talked about it.”
He also described the moment near the end of the sessions when Knapp heard the playback. “We were listening to the album on the way back home from Vegas, and he’s, like, ‘Dude, this is good.’ I’m, like, ‘I know. It fucking rocks, dude.’ And I could see it on his face, a relief.”
Filling Lynn Strait’s Shoes
Knapp replaced the late Lynn Strait, who died in a car accident in December 1998. Doling said making the new Snot album was a much bigger ask than touring. “Sure, [it’s one thing to] go out and tour and sing [songs from SNOT’s debut album] ‘Get Some’ – he kills it,” he said. “But to actually record an album with us? That’s a lot of pressure on him. And he jumped in.”
He said Strait was Knapp’s hero. “Andy’s 10 years younger than all of us. And when we put out ‘Get Some’, he fell in love with that record and literally started singing because of Lynn Strait.” Knapp is from Ventura, and Doling said he’d been there all along while the band looked for a singer “for 15 years.” He added: “He’s from Ventura, which is the 805 where we’re from, Santa Barbara. Right in the backyard, dude. He was there the whole time.”
Knapp made his live debut with Snot in January 2025 in Anaheim, almost two years before the new Snot album got close to done.
Snot’s Story So Far
Snot formed in Santa Barbara in 1995 with Strait, Doling, bassist John Fahnestock and drummer Jamie Miller. Their debut, Get Some, came out on Geffen in 1997 and became a cult classic of the late-’90s heavy scene. After Strait’s death, the surviving members released the 2000 tribute album Strait Up, with guest vocalists including Jonathan Davis, Corey Taylor, Fred Durst and Serj Tankian. Members of Snot went on to bands including Soulfly, Bad Religion, Amen, Lo-Pro and Channel Zero.
Since coming back with Knapp in 2025, Blabbermouth says, the band has played festivals including Welcome To Rockville, Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, Aftershock, Download and Graspop Metal Meeting, plus headline club shows in North America and Europe. Doc Coyle (God Forbid, ex-Bad Wolves) joined as touring guitarist in April 2025. When Miller can’t tour because of his Bad Religion commitments, Chris “Seven” Antonopoulos fills in on drums.
The current lineup on the new Snot album is Doling on guitar, Fahnestock on bass, Miller on drums and Knapp on vocals.
What We’re Watching For
Nearly 30 years after Get Some, it’s still a big deal that the new Snot album exists at all. The next steps to watch for are a title, a first single and a firm date from BLKIIBLK. A tour announcement would be the obvious follow-up, but none has been made, and there’s no San Diego date. Snot comes from just up the coast, and a lot of SoCal fans grew up on Get Some, so we’ll be watching for one.
It’s been a big stretch for legacy bands with new records, from Ministry’s final album to the last Black Sabbath record.
