San Diego’s Cascade Effect have a new video and, finally, a release date for their first full-length. The Cascade Effect Rogue Wave video landed Oct. 13 through Eclipse Records, and it’s the opening shot for The Weight of Nothingness, a 13-track album due Jan. 8, 2027.
Eclipse calls the San Diego five-piece a blend of deathcore, groove metal, melodic death metal, progressive atmospheres and nu metal. That’s a lot of boxes, and the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave single goes a long way toward checking them.
Inside the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave video
Oz Riveros directed the clip, and he puts the band in the middle of a storm. Per the label, real footage of massive ocean waves is projected so it crashes right over the five of them, mixed with light installations and torrential water spray. Between the performance cuts are archival clips of the members’ own memories with friends and family. It’s the human stuff set against the weather, and that contrast is the point of the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave clip.
Eclipse says the song is about how fast life can change, and about the gap that artificial intelligence and digital overstimulation are opening between people. The waves stand in for both: life’s unexpected hits, and the tide of tech noise drowning out real connection. Vocalist Dustin Keimig put it this way in the label’s announcement:
We’re constantly connected to devices, information, algorithms, and opinions, yet somehow it feels like people are becoming more disconnected from each other.

He also said the song comes from aging, watching people he cares about age and lose loved ones, and wanting to appreciate them “while they’re still here.” In his words, “The real world is right in front of us, and I don’t want to let it pass by because I was too consumed by all the noise.”
Cascade Effect Rogue Wave is the first of three videos planned from the album. The label names “My Devil’s Hour” as the next one, and says the personal memories in this clip carry over there and turn into darker, internal anxieties.
The Weight of Nothingness: album details
- Release: Jan. 8, 2027, via Eclipse Records

- Mastered by: Miro Kiiski (Hypocrisy, PAIN, Beast in Black) at Miro Mastering

- Videos so far: “Rogue Wave,” with “My Devil’s Hour” named as next
Per Eclipse, the record digs into mortality, fear, isolation, regret and the search for meaning. “My Devil’s Hour” deals with isolation and intrusive thoughts in the loneliest hours of the night, and the title track rejects comforting myths about the afterlife and finds the gift in existence itself. If the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave single is any guide, it won’t be a light listen. The label lists Slipknot, Gojira, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive, Machine Head and Killswitch Engage as frequent comparisons. Judge for yourself with Cascade Effect Rogue Wave above.
Who Cascade Effect are
The lineup is Dustin Keimig on vocals, Seth Roscamp on drums, Bobby Fernandez on bass, and Shaun Frude and Alec Peterson on guitars. The band’s site says the name comes from the idea that a small first event sets off a chain reaction that keeps growing, which is how the members say the band came together.
Their biggest break so far came in 2024. Cascade Effect won the national final of Wacken Metal Battle USA, held June 22, 2024, at Brick by Brick, per BraveWords, beating WarTroll, Versipul, Prime Prophecy and Father Wolf. That sent them to play the international battle at Wacken Open Air in Germany that summer. (We covered that year’s festival when the first Wacken 2024 bands were announced.) They’ve since signed a worldwide deal with Eclipse, and they were also on the sold-out final night at Brick by Brick, which we wrote about in our Brick by Brick closing story.
Since the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave release is the start of an album cycle, expect more news. The Cascade Effect Rogue Wave announcement also notes the band’s momentum since Wacken. The band’s site already lists Triple Threat Metal Fest in The Hague, Netherlands, on May 22, 2027.
A San Diego show? Check first
Cascade Effect at The Holding Company on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2026. We couldn’t confirm it. It isn’t on the band’s own upcoming shows list, and the label didn’t mention it. Treat it as unconfirmed and check with the band or the venue before you go. We’ll update if it’s announced.
Until then, the Cascade Effect Rogue Wave video is up on YouTube, and Jan. 8 is the date to circle for the album.
