Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater

The Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre is San Diego State University’s 4,600-seat outdoor amphitheater, a steeply raked, fan-shaped bowl on campus. Built as a Works Progress Administration project starting in 1939, it opened on Founder’s Day 1941 and was known for decades as the Open Air Theatre. It took its current name in 2014 through a naming partnership with California Coast Credit Union.

Operated by Associated Students of SDSU, it’s one of the area’s longest-running outdoor venues and a great mid-size step between the clubs and the arenas. The bowl has hosted everything from Frank Zappa and Bob Marley to The Offspring, and it still draws classic hard-rock headliners like Alice Cooper.
