SOMA is San Diego’s long-running independent all-ages venue, now at 3350 Sports Arena Blvd. in the Midway District next to Pechanga Arena. Its current home, a converted multiplex remodeled in 2019, holds up to 2,300 people across 20,000-plus square feet on the Mainstage, with a separate Sidestage for smaller shows.
SOMA’s story runs from a downtown all-ages club to a Morena-area warehouse in the ’90s to its current home, which opened in 2002. Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead and Blink-182 are part of its history, and it has been called San Diego’s “leading all-ages venue for punk and alternative-rock concerts,” which makes it the room where plenty of under-21 heavy-music fans see their first real shows.
