La Mesa-born Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine says his band’s farewell trek is about to get a lot more crowded. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk on Thursday, Oct. 15, Mustaine said Anthrax and Kerry King are “going out with us on the next run,” a remark that has fans already talking about a Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour. No dates, cities or venues have been announced, and none of the bands has confirmed the plan beyond Mustaine’s comments.
The quotes below come from Blabbermouth’s transcript of the interview, published Oct. 16. SDMETAL has not heard the audio, and as of Saturday morning no other outlet had published an independent transcript. Trunk said on X that video of the chat is coming to YouTube.
What Mustaine Said About the Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King Tour
Before any talk of a Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour, Mustaine listed territories, as transcribed by Blabbermouth:
“There’s a lot of really great touring opportunities for us. We’re gonna be doing the States, we’re gonna be going back to Europe, we’re gonna be going down into the Asian territories. We’re leaving in a couple weeks to New Zealand, and followed up with Australia.”
He also named Korea, India and South Africa. Then came the line behind the Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour headlines:
“The touring is heavy, and we’ve decided to take out a lot of our friends. ANTHRAX and KERRY KING are going out with us on the next run. After that, we’re going out with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and TESTAMENT [in Europe], which is gonna be great. I love both those bands. And many more. Many, many more.”
The bracketed “[in Europe]” is Blabbermouth’s insertion, not Mustaine’s words.
Is the Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King Tour a U.S. Run? Unclear
“We’re gonna be doing the States” and the Anthrax and Kerry King line came at different points in the answer. Mustaine did not say the run with Anthrax and King would be in the U.S., and he did not name a year. Theprp’s headline calls it “a 2027 Megadeth, Anthrax, Kerry King tour,” but 2027 is theprp’s framing. It does not appear in any transcribed quote.
Timing is also fuzzy. On the official calendar, Megadeth’s next shows are in New Zealand and Australia in November, and the Europe dates with Black Label Society and Testament start in March 2027. Mustaine put the Anthrax and King run before the Europe tour (“After that…”), but no announced dates fit in that window other than Japan, which has no support acts listed. Until the bands or a promoter announce routing, any Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour remains Mustaine’s word only. It is not known whether King would bring his solo band, and no San Diego date has been announced.
Megadeth’s Confirmed Farewell Schedule
Here is what is confirmed, per the official Megadeth tour page as of Oct. 17:
- New Zealand and Australia, Nov. 7–19, 2026: Auckland (two nights at Spark Arena), Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and two nights in Brisbane. These dates are on Iron Maiden’s tour, with Megadeth as special guests.
- Japan, Feb. 22–25, 2027: Osaka on Feb. 22 and two nights at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan. The Osaka show and the first Tokyo night are listed as sold out.
- Europe, “Breakout: Hibernation of the Nations,” March 9–April 13, 2027: 24 dates from Belfast to Lisbon. Megadeth’s announcement says Black Label Society and Testament are on the whole tour.
Testament fans can catch up on the Bay Area band’s latest album in our story on Testament’s Para Bellum, and their tour with Kreator.
Anthrax, Kerry King and Megadeth
Anthrax already have plenty of 2026 miles in with Megadeth. They co-supported Megadeth’s Canadian headline run with Exodus in February and March, and joined several Iron Maiden dates with them in September. Anthrax released Cursum Perficio, their first album since 2016, on Sept. 18.
King’s history with Mustaine goes back to 1984, when he briefly played with Megadeth. These days he splits his time between his solo band and the reunited Slayer. Slayer’s Reign in Blood 40th anniversary show lands at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on Nov. 13. Pollstar reported King plans a new tour in early 2027, but nothing publicly ties that to a Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour.
Local fans may remember a nearby bill that mixed these camps long before any Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour talk. On Aug. 29, 2010, the American Carnage tour brought Slayer, Megadeth and Testament to what was then Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
How Long Will the Farewell Last?
Mustaine said he has not pictured Megadeth’s final show. He has said he may eventually need surgery for Dupuytren’s contracture in his hand. “Once the shows start to suffer, I’m gonna know, and right now they’re not,” he said, per Blabbermouth. “And, actually, they’re getting better.”
The band announced its final album and a farewell tour in August 2025. Iron Maiden, meanwhile, are headed back to the area in 2027; see our Iron Maiden Chula Vista 2027 coverage.
SDMETAL will update this story if Megadeth, Anthrax or Kerry King’s camp announce dates for a Megadeth Anthrax Kerry King tour, including any Southern California stops.
