Slipknot are deep in the studio, and their drummer says there’s plenty to choose from. In an interview with Camilo Guzmán of Colombia’s Radiónica, transcribed by Blabbermouth on Oct. 17, Eloy Casagrande said the band is “doing a lot of songs – many, many songs” for the Slipknot new album, and that “we are making real music.” He gave no title, release date or other details.
Casagrande on the Slipknot New Album
According to Blabbermouth’s transcript, the 35-year-old Brazilian said:
“Right now, we are recording the new album. We are doing the new record… We are doing a lot of songs – many, many songs. So I cannot talk a lot about them very much.”
He said the band is “really happy with the music that we created so far” and that “everyone’s in a very good vibe.” Then he repeated the point he clearly cared about most:
“We are making real music. We are not thinking about business. We are not thinking about if the people are gonna like it or not. We are doing what we believe is right to do… It’s a very chill, very good process, very natural process, easygoing.”
The Slipknot new album is Casagrande’s first record with the band. “Now that I’m here, having my first experience doing a record with the band, I’m also really glad,” he said, adding that his bandmates “want me to be myself.”
The Brazilian Groove in the Room
The most revealing part of the interview was about the studio itself. Casagrande said that at his first rehearsal, percussionist Clown (M. Shawn Crahan) heard him playing a Brazilian rhythm and told him, “This is a fucking metal band.” During recording, he said, Crahan has come to him “a few times” asking, “What do you think about throwing out some Brazilian stuff, Brazilian rhythms?”
That doesn’t confirm any specific songs or sounds on the Slipknot new album, but it is the clearest hint so far from inside the sessions. Casagrande also said the band “don’t want to have another Joey in the band,” a reference to late founding drummer Joey Jordison, and want him to bring his own ideas instead.
Where “Arsenal” Fits
The Slipknot new album talk follows September’s single “Arsenal,” the band’s first new song in more than three years and its first release on its own (sic)est Records after leaving Roadrunner, per Blabbermouth. The single got mixed reactions, and guitarist Jim Root has already said it won’t be on the record. In a now-deleted Instagram comment quoted by Blabbermouth, Root wrote that “Arsenal” was “a tune we could quickly get out there while we work on the rest of the record” and is “not really representative of the other tunes.”
That means this is not the first time a band member has mentioned the album since “Arsenal.” Root’s comments came first. What Casagrande adds about the Slipknot new album is that recording is underway and that there are “many, many songs.”
Slipknot New Album: Known vs. Unknown
None of what follows is official. It comes from interviews, not a band or label announcement.
- Known: The band is recording a new album, per Casagrande. It will follow The End, So Far (August 2022). “Arsenal” will not be on it, per Root.
- Unknown: the album’s title, release date, label and lead single. (sic)est Records is a reasonable guess given “Arsenal,” but it hasn’t been confirmed for the album.
- Unknown: whether the album will be out before the band’s 2027 tour.
How Eloy Casagrande Got Here
Casagrande joined Slipknot in early 2024, replacing Jay Weinberg, after 12 years drumming for Sepultura, the Brazilian band SDMETAL has followed through its San Diego visits. In the Radiónica interview, he called joining “a dream that came true” and said a Slipknot video he saw as a kid “changed my personality as a musician.”
The lineup has changed a lot since the last album. Blabbermouth notes that keyboardist Craig Jones left in June 2023 and Sid Wilson has also departed. Last fall, the band sold its catalog to HarbourView Equity Partners, a deal that reportedly does not include future releases.
What It Means for SoCal Fans
The Slipknot new album isn’t tied to any San Diego dates. The closest show on the 2027 (sic)est Stadium Tour is Friday, Aug. 13, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood with Bring Me The Horizon and Loathe, according to SoFi Stadium. No San Diego date is on the tour. The stadium summer does include a local show from another band: Metallica plays Snapdragon Stadium May 13, 2027, and Petco Park has hosted big metal bills before, like Killswitch Engage on This Consequence tour.
Until Slipknot announce a title or date, the Slipknot new album is still a work in progress. SDMETAL will update this story when there is official news.
