Former Saxon drummer Nigel Durham, who played on the band’s 1988 album Destiny, has died at 61. Saxon announced his death on social media on Saturday, Oct. 24.
“We are very sad to hear of the passing of a member of the SAXON family, former drummer Nigel Durham,” the band wrote. “We send our love and thoughts to his wife Lauretta, daughter Gemma, his grandchildren, and family.”
No cause of death has been disclosed, Blabbermouth reports.
Nigel Durham’s Years With Saxon
Durham was Saxon’s drummer from 1987 to 1988. He replaced Nigel Glockler and played on Destiny. Glockler, Saxon’s current drummer, posted a tribute to his friend: “I will see you on the other side. Love and strength to Lauretta, his daughter and family.”
After Saxon, Durham played with Oliver/Dawson Saxon, the group formed by former Saxon members Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson. His recordings with them included Re://Landed and It’s Alive. In 2013 he joined Morpheus Rising as their full-time drummer.
