Carnifex Video “Licking Love From A Knife” & 10th Album’s Brutal Closer

Carnifex Video “Licking Love From A Knife” & 10th Album’s Brutal Closer

The new Carnifex video is here, and it closes the book on what’s coming next. The Fallbrook-formed deathcore band has released the official music video for “Licking Love From a Knife,” the final track on their upcoming 10th studio album More Than Misery, due November 6, 2026 via Sumerian Records. The Carnifex video premiered on Sumerian’s YouTube channel this week, as reported by Rockfreaks.net.

“Licking Love From a Knife” is the 10th and last song on the tracklist, which makes it the third look at the record after the title track and “Roses & Rotting Corpses.” Watch the Carnifex video above, then read on for everything we know about the album.

The Carnifex Video Rounds Out a Three-Song Rollout

The More Than Misery campaign started in May with “Roses & Rotting Corpses,” the song that introduced the band’s partnership with Sumerian. The album was formally announced on August 28 alongside the title track and its own video. “Licking Love From a Knife” now completes that picture; the Carnifex video reveals how the album ends.

That makes this Carnifex video a fitting bookend, and a strong last impression ahead of release day. The previous videos showed the album’s opening statement and its emotional center; this one shows where it lands.

According to the album announcement published by Blabbermouth, vocalist Scott Ian Lewis is writing from a new perspective on this record. On earlier albums he wrote while still inside the experiences he was processing; on More Than Misery he is writing after surviving them. The title carries a deliberate double meaning: something worse waiting beyond the darkness, or the assertion that a life is larger than the misery it contains.

More Than Misery’ is about what happens when suffering becomes more than something you endure, it becomes what changes you,” Lewis said. “This is Carnifex at our most honest and unapologetically brutal.”

Behind the Carnifex Video: A New Label and Production Team

More Than Misery is Carnifex’s first full-length for Sumerian Records, following their run on Nuclear Blast that included 2023’s Necromanteum.

The band brought in an entirely new production team. The album was tracked in Tennessee with Zach Householder of Whitechapel and mixed by Jeff Dunne. Whitechapel fans in San Diego will remember the Knoxville band tearing through town with Meshuggah and In Flames, which we covered in our Meshuggah, In Flames and Whitechapel at SOMA preview.

Musically, the band says it set out to combine its original 2005 approach with the tools available in 2026: the physical directness of first-wave deathcore, its death metal foundations and the symphonic atmosphere of later records, with guitars kept as the primary voice and orchestration used to deepen the impact. Every song was written with the live room in mind, down to pit movement and whether all five members could carry each part onstage. Beyond the Carnifex video single, the record also features a guest spot from Chaney Crabb on “The Process of Pain.”

From Fallbrook to Deathcore’s First Wave

Carnifex formed in Fallbrook in 2005, started by Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron, and grew out of the collision of death metal, black metal, metalcore and Southern California’s all-ages hardcore scene. Over nine previous studio albums, including Dead in My Arms, Hell Chose Me, Die Without Hope, Slow Death and World War X, the band helped shape the sound of deathcore’s first wave. If the new Carnifex video is your introduction to the band, for a deeper look at their history, see our Carnifex band spotlight.

The current lineup is Scott Ian Lewis (vocals), Cory Arford (guitar), Neal Tiemann (guitar), Shawn Cameron (drums) and Fred Calderon (bass). The band describes itself as five equal members with shared decisions and no hired musicians.

After the Carnifex Video: Release Day in Sheffield

Don’t expect the Carnifex video to be followed by a hometown release show on November 6. Carnifex will be overseas on a 20-date European triple co-headline run with Despised Icon and Suffocation, the Death Dominion Tour presented by Impericon Festival, with Gates to Hell in support, per Distorted Sound. The run spans October 29 in Munich to November 20 in Karlsruhe, and the band plays Sheffield’s Corporation on release day.

Suffocation are no strangers to local stages either; look back at our Suffocation at Brick by Brick coverage. Before heading to Europe, Carnifex joined All Shall Perish for The Price of Existence 20th-anniversary tour, which stopped at House of Blues San Diego on October 2.

We haven’t seen any San Diego dates announced in support of More Than Misery yet. When the band brings the new songs home, it will be on our San Diego shows calendar. Until then, put the Carnifex video on repeat and follow updates on the band’s official site, carnifexmetal.com.
