Tower Bar, The

The Tower Bar is a San Diego landmark at 4757 University Ave. in City Heights. The Zigzag Moderne building went up in fall 1932 as a drive-in soda fountain, crowned by the monumental pylon tower that still gives the bar its name, and the ground floor has been a restaurant or bar ever since.

Now a 21+ bar open daily from 4 PM to 2 AM with live music most nights, the Tower is a go-to small stage for punk, garage, rock and metal. Its bills run from metal bands like Castle and Heathen God to punk matinees like the Punk Rock Chili Dog Social.
