Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman has released “2 Rebeldes (Spanish Vocal),” a new single version of a song from his 2024 solo album Drama (Frontiers Music). He calls it a thank-you to his fans in Spanish-speaking countries.
“‘2 Rebeldes’ is my love letter to all the Latin countries around the world,” Friedman said in the announcement reported by Blabbermouth. “Each one has unique warm memories for me, but they share a common language, so I did a Spanish vocal song for everyone.”
Hal-Ca of the Japanese band Asterism will sing the song with him on his Latin American tour. “When I think of a Japanese girl singing a song in Spanish written by an American dude in so many Latin countries, it makes me smile and think, ‘Yeah, this is something Marty would do…'” Friedman said.
Marty Friedman Tour Plans
Friedman tours South America this month to mark the 34th anniversary of his album Scenes, then plays the Hero rock festival in Korea in December. In April 2027 he takes his “Live Drama” tour to Europe, and he says the Drama world tour will keep going after that.
In between, he has announced two Southern California shows for Jan. 28 and 29, 2027. The Jan. 29 show is at the Whisky a Go Go, 8901 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, with doors at 6 p.m. The venue lists Roland Grant, Ennea, Hellbourne, Andy Addams, Ympossibles (featuring Mike Terrana) and Sin Eater on the bill. The venue for the Jan. 28 show hasn’t been confirmed by an official source yet.
Neither show is in San Diego, but the Whisky is a realistic drive for local fans who want to see a guitarist who played on Rust in Peace.
Still Writing for the Next Album
Friedman told U.K. radio host Paul Stephenson of VRP Rocks that Drama is “really my favorite piece of work right now.” He also said he has started writing the follow-up and has “a plan of attack” for it, but added that “it’s gonna take some time.”
Before Megadeth, Friedman co-founded Cacophony with Jason Becker. After a decade in Megadeth he moved to Tokyo, where he became a TV personality and wrote and played with major J-pop acts. His autobiography, Dreaming Japanese, came out in December 2024 through Permuted Press.
