Power Trip Precinct 3 and its companion track “Scavenger” marked the Dallas thrash band’s first new music since the death of singer Riley Gale, and now the band is inviting fans to be part of its next video. Power Trip will film a live performance and video shoot at The Studio at The Factory in Deep Ellum, Dallas, with free admission for fans who RSVP with a $5 donation to the nonprofit Amplified Minds. A full-length album with new vocalist Seth Gilmore is due in 2027.
The double single came out Oct. 9 on the band’s new label, Blue Grape Music, with an official “Precinct 3” video directed by Eric Richter.
Power Trip Precinct 3 Video Shoot in Deep Ellum
Power Trip announced the event on Oct. 30 on X: “NEXT SUNDAY IN DEEP ELLUM • STUDIO AT THE FACTORY LIVE PERFORMANCE / VIDEO SHOOT.” The post lists limited capacity, free admission with an RSVP and a $5 donation to Amplified Minds, doors at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m., with RSVPs through AXS.
Theprp reports the shoot is planned for Sunday, Nov. 8. The band has not said which song the new video is for.
Amplified Minds is a Dallas nonprofit that offers free mental health services to adults 18 and older, with a focus on the creative community, according to its website. It began in 2014 as Foundation 45, a suicide prevention group formed after the deaths of Adam Carter and Frankie Campagna of the Dallas band Spector 45.
Power Trip Precinct 3 and Scavenger: The First Songs With Seth Gilmore
“Precinct 3” and “Scavenger” were recorded at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas. They were produced by Jacob Hansen, whose credits include Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Amon Amarth and The Black Dahlia Murder, and co-produced by guitarist Blake Ibanez, according to Blabbermouth and the band’s Bandcamp credits. “Precinct 3” runs 3:16 and “Scavenger” runs 3:46.
The lineup is Gilmore on vocals, Ibanez and Nick Stewart on guitar, Chris Whetzel on bass and Chris Ulsh on drums. Gilmore is the vocalist of Skourge and fronts the Dallas thrash band Fugitive, which he founded in 2021 with Ibanez. His first performance with Power Trip was a surprise five-song set on Dec. 1, 2023, at Mohawk in Austin.
What the Band Said About Power Trip Precinct 3
The announcement says “Precinct 3” examines “the dangers of unchecked authority.” Ibanez explained how the band approached the lyrics: “When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about. So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily — the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.”
Gilmore wrote “Scavenger” about people who attach themselves to someone else’s hard work. “There are people out there that ride along and develop some sort of self-importance from association,” he said. “And from there, they wield that in the wrong directions. Or maybe even against the same people they leeched it from.”
On working with Hansen, Ulsh said: “We’re tough to please because we want something that sounds current, but most importantly we want it to sound like us, however that comes out.”
Remembering Riley Gale
Gale died on Aug. 25, 2020. An autopsy report ruled that he died from the toxic effects of fentanyl and that the manner of death was accidental, according to Blabbermouth. The new songs are the band’s first recordings since his death.
Vinyl, Record Store Day and Live Dates
The two songs are streaming now and will be released as a limited 7-inch single, available to pre-order from the Power Trip and Blue Grape Music webstores. A Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive with alternate artwork hits independent record stores on Nov. 27. Revolver reports it is limited to 1,500 copies.
Power Trip are also booked for Nov. 20 at The Great NOLA Trendkill in New Orleans, held Nov. 20-21 at Lakefront Arena. The band played Mexico City with Slayer on Oct. 21 and Sick New World Texas in Fort Worth on Oct. 24.
There is no San Diego date. SDMETAL is tracking other 2027 tours skipping San Diego.
When Is the New Power Trip Album Out?
Blabbermouth says the band has been in the studio for more than a year and that the new album is due in spring 2027. The band’s own Oct. 9 post said “LP OUT EARLY 2027.” No title, tracklist or exact date has been announced.
