Cult of Luna Sadness Will Reign is out now, and it features Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier. The Swedish post-metal band released the song on Nov. 4 with an official visualizer by Dehn Sora, two days before their 10th studio album, In The Shadow Of Your Shadow, arrives Friday, Nov. 6.
Cult of Luna Sadness Will Reign With Joe Duplantier
According to Louder, the track has Duplantier and singer and guitarist Johannes Persson roaring in unison over five minutes of dense heavy metal riffing. It is the fourth single from the album, following the title track in June, “A Way Back” in August and “The Rift.”
The band’s album announcement called the song a blunt, misanthropic statement built around the line “All of you are born from filth!” It is the second track on the record.
Louder notes that Gojira are still working on their eighth album, the follow-up to 2021’s Fortitude. Their only announced shows are two dates supporting System Of A Down at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on June 10 and 12. Those shows are in our System Of A Down 2027 story.
In The Shadow Of Your Shadow Details
The album is out Nov. 6 on Red Crk, the band’s own label. Per Chaoszine, it runs nine tracks and 71 minutes. Daniel Berglund co-produced it and Magnus Lindberg mixed it. It is also available via the band’s Bandcamp.
David Eugene Edwards of 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand sings on “One More Day.” “David has been a huge influence for years,” Persson said in the album announcement. “I’ve been a huge fan of 16 Horsepower, his solo projects and Wovenhand for decades. ‘One More Day’ is one of my favorite tracks on the album. His voice fits perfectly on the song and it carries the subject matter with conviction.”
The album closes with “Burial,” a near-12-minute song about mortality. Persson summed up the band’s approach in one line: “Stagnation is the only thing that scares me.”
